Hygiena utilises advanced technologies and designs to deliver rapid microbial detection, monitoring and identification solutions. These solutions are distributed to various industries, including food & beverage, health care, hospitality, pharmaceuticals, and personal care. Sychem and Hygiena have worked in partnership since 2004 to provide a range of industry-leading ATP hygiene monitoring and rapid microbial detection systems.
What does Hygiena do?
Hygiena recognises the universal need to measure the effectiveness of cleanliness across all industries, from Healthcare to hospitality. Operating for over 40 years, Hygiena has built up a client base that spans across the globe. Since partnering with Sychem in 2004, Hygiena has expanded their product portfolio to include two ATP Hygiene monitoring systems that aid in detecting, monitoring, and identifying micro bacteria, the SystemSURE Plus and the EnSURE Touch.
ATP hygiene monitoring is a cleaning verification measure that provides accurate results that define, monitor, and maintain cleaning standards within a facility. A sample is taken with a special swab, which can be found on our Sychem Shop, inserted into either of the ATP monitoring systems, and a numerical value is returned. This simple, straightforward method allows users to determine if a surface is clean and free of bacteria.
What is ATP?
Adenosine Triphosphate, more commonly known as ATP, is an energy molecule found in all living cells that allows cellular metabolism to take place. ATP is found in all forms of organic matter.
There are many forms of organic matter residing on surfaces in healthcare settings, such as bodily fluids, blood, and bacteria. Any organic matter left on surfaces could become a point of cross-contamination between staff and patients, potentially leading to HAIs (Hospital Acquired Infections), if cleaning isn’t correctly undertaken.
What is ATP testing?
An ATP test is used to measure ATP levels on a surface, assessing the performance of a cleaning process beyond visible means.
ATP Hygiene Monitoring is a measure taken to verify cleaning practices (including physical cleaning and sterilisation/disinfection) that provides accurate results to define, monitor, and maintain cleaning standards within a facility.
An ATP monitoring system provides a scientific measure of total cleanliness, giving users a quantitative reading regarding how well a cleaning process has performed on any given surface. This data is then used to monitor the hygiene performance over time, and can be used to highlight areas for improvement.
If ATP is present on a surface, it indicates improper cleaning, and thus the presence of contamination. This contamination may be food residue, allergens or bacteria, which implies the potential for a surface to harbour and support bacterial growth.
The presence of ATP on a surface after the initial cleaning process has taken place indicates that the cleaning process may not have been appropriately undertaken or the current process is unsuitable, and that the facility may need new cleaning products.
A selection of Hygiena ATP Hygiene Monitoring systems from our portfolio:
EnSURE Touch:
The EnSURE Touch is an advanced monitoring system that collects, analyses and reports data from various trusted quality test devices, providing rapid and accurate sanitation verification data. The system features an intuitive smartphone design for a user-friendly system, and Enzyme test devices for multiple food safety and quality tests. This system is mostly used in the food & beverage and hospitality industries.
SystemSURE Plus:
The SystemSURE Plus is a cleaning verification system that consists of a luminometer, ATP test devices and the SureTrend dashboard. These three parts work together to assist in the tracking and measuring of your cleaning program across multiple locations. A quantitative replacement for fluorescent cleaning gels, the SystemSURE plus quantifies your cleaning outcomes in 15 seconds and provides a measurable result. This result helps improve cleaning outcomes and reduce the risk of Healthcare-associated infections (HAI’s). The SystemSURE Plus is most used in healthcare settings.
